| Chocobo Breeding Guide |
In order to successfully mate chocobos and achieve a gold chocobo, you will need about 100,000 gil. On disc two, after you get the Highwind, go back to the chocobo farm. You have to buy at least four stalls, but six are recommended. Now, go onto the world map and equip the Chocobo Lure materia. Get four chocobos, and then go back to the stable. Go to Choco Billy and move the chocobos. Repeat this process until you get a male and a female walking (standing with their feet moving, not hunched over, and not standing and swaying), and a male and a female running (standing and running, but not running extremely fast with their head down). DO NOT look for the chocobos near the chocobo farm!!! Look for the walking chocobos (standing up with their feet moving [they look like they're walking in place]) near the Gold Saucer, and running chocobos (The are running in place, but they're not running incredibly fast, and they're heads aren't down) near Mideel. When you have a male and a female walking and a male and a female running all in the stables, go up to the Chocobo Sage (on the Northern Continent). Land the Highwind on the small patch of grass. Go into his house and buy one to two Sylkis Greens! DO NOT purchase more than two Sylkis Greens! If you are experienced with the W-Item trick, you only need to purchase one, but if you are not, you need to purchase two. For the W-Item trick, refer to the Tips and Tricks section.
Now, walk around on the grassy patch until you get into a fight with a red dragon. You should have Steal Materia equipped, but it is not a neccesity. If you do have steal equipped, steal a Carob Nut from him. Then you have the choice of running, or finishing him off. If you don't have steal equipped, defeat him, and you should receive a Carob Nut. Repeat this process until you have three Carob Nuts. Go back to the chocobo farm and save before proceeding! Now mate a male walking with a female running using a carob nut. You should get a Green Chocobo. If you don't, restart the game and try again. If you don't get one after three tries, go to the Gold Saucer, and race both of them up to B Class. Then try again. Save the game again before proceeding! Next, mate a male running and a female walking using a carob nut, and you should get a Blue Chocobo. If you don't, repeat the process for what to do if you don't get a Green Chocobo. Before saving, make sure the Green and Blue Chocobo are of the opposite sex. Once you have the Green and Blue Chocobos, you can get all the special materias except for Knights of the Round!
Now, release the Yellow Chocobos, and keep the Green and Blue ones. Now's where the W-Item trick comes in. Disequip any Counter Attack Materias that you have, and get into a fight. Use W-Item to get 99 Sylkis Greens. Feed the Green Chocobo 97 Sylkis Greens, then get 97 more Sylkis Greens. Feed 97 to the Blue Chocobo, and then go to the Gold Saucer. You can either buy a Single Pass and get a Lifetime Pass for 300 GP, or you can get a Lifetime Pass. Race the Green and the Blue Chocobos up to Class A or S (from my experience, it doesn't matter which class) and then mate them with a Carob Nut to get a Black Chocobo. Go to the Northern Continent and get a Dashing Chocobo that is the opposite sex of your Black Chocobo (this can be very hard to get, yet I had no difficulty getting a Dashing Chocobo. A Dashing Chocobo has it's head down and is running VERY fast). Then go to an island in the Northeast and steal a Zeio Nut from the goblins. Feed the Black and Dashing Chocobos 97 Sylkis Greens each, and then race them up to S Class. Then mate them with a Zeio Nut and YOU HAVE A GOLD CHOCOBO!!!!! The Gold Chocobo can go virtually anywhere on the world map. Take it to the Northeast to an island that is not on the map. There you will find the legendary KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND MATERIA! |
